During the April 2017 ITREP meeting, Lynda Gelston (John Abbott College) presented the following activity: Research Apprenticeship through Role-Play Scenarios: The Research Competition Website
Lynda explains how the content of The Research Competition Website can encourage deep learning of a broad range of research-related skills through scripted role-play scenarios. She describes briefly this recently released CCDMD website. Focus is placed on the scenarios, scripts, videos and innovative instructional tools that are readily available for use by teachers and students in the Social Science Research Methods courses.
This website aims at supporting teachers and students in the Social Sciences program and is useful as a methodological complement to the Quantitative Methods in Social Science course (competency 022Q: Apply the scientific approach used in the field of Social Science to empirical research). It contributes to the development of the following skills of the ICT Profile for College Students: 1-Search for information; 2-Process information; 3-Present information; 4-Use ICTs in an Efficient and Responsible Manner.
