CollegeBadge.ca: Recognizing the Mastering of Formal and Informal College-level Skills

In an article from 2015 (in French), Geoffroi Garon-Épaule stated that, since the deployment of Internet, learning and developing skills have almost no limits. We can now learn anywhere we are, at any time, either offline or online. In this context, informal training becomes as important as formal training that is part of the skills found in programs. In order to support new learning opportunities, to bring them forward and ensure their quality, one solution that is emerging is the use of digital badges.

It’s with this in mind that the CollegeBadge.ca project was set up. Its objective is to recognize the mastering of formal and informal skills (disciplinary, digital, participation in student life, sports, etc.) by granting digital badges which are available online via the college network. Target audiences are regular daytime and Cont.Ed students, those seeking recognition of acquired competencies (RAC) and customized company training.

The CollegeBadge.ca project will be validated by experimenting with a digital badge system for the mastering of skills and objectives from the ICT Profile for College Students.
