College Badge.ca : pilot project and future projects

This year, the IT REP Network experimented with the awarding of digital badges to recognize and make known the mastery of digital skills by college students. Five colleges participated in the pilot project.

The slideshow first presents the pilot project that took place from January 2017 to June 2018: objectives, implementation steps, results, implementation challenges. Then, it gives an overview of future projects related to the granting of digital badges in the college network and the conditions associated with their success.

Les projets de badge numérique dans le réseau collégial : aspects pédagogiques et technologiques

Le badge numérique permet de reconnaître la maîtrise de compétences formelles et non-formelles dans une perspective de formation tout au long de la vie. Cette forme de reconnaissance suscite de plus en plus d’intérêt dans le monde de l’éducation, mais aussi sur le marché du travail.

Deux projets de badge numérique ont actuellement cours dans le réseau collégial.  Le 14 mars dernier, André Beauregard (Cégep régional Lanaudière – formation continue) et Nicole Perreault (Réseau REPTIC) ont chacun présenté leur projet dans le cadre d’un atelier organisé par le REFAD.

CollegeBadge.ca: Recognizing the Mastering of Formal and Informal College-level Skills

The objective of CollegeBadge.ca is to recognize the mastering of formal and informal skills (disciplinary, digital, participation in student life, sports, etc.) by granting digital badges which are available online via the college network. Target audiences are regular daytime and Cont.Ed students, those seeking recognition of acquired competencies (RAC) and customized company training. The Collegebadge.ca project will be validated by experimenting with a digital badge system for the mastering of skills and objectives from the ICT Profile for College Students.Lire la suite

ICT Profile and Digital Badge Experiments

The ICT Profile for College Students generated many projects, including two digital badge experiments, which attest mastery of digital skills. The fist took place in a situation of recognition of acquired competencies (RAC) in college; the other in regular day training. The system will be available to all colleges, in the DECclic/Moodle environment: colleges will award ICT Profile Badges to their students. They will also benefit from an institutional space within which they can award their own badges.

One of the many benefits of having a reference framework for colleges, is that it provides educational institutions with a structure on which they may rely when realizing various projects. A reference framework for colleges offers an opportunity to generate projects that bring together participating colleges and partners. Side benefits profit all involved. This is the case with the ICT Profile for College Students, that colleges can now resort to for projects involving technologies and digital skills. The ICT Profile also lead to the production of many resources to support the mastery of skills.
