Digital badges are used more and more to certify the mastering of all sorts of skills for the labour market and education: a number of projects are taking shape in France, England, the United States and in Canada.
The Quebec College Network is no exception: in 2017-2018, the ITREP Network published the BadgeCollégial.ca website and experimented with a digital badge project certifying the mastering of skills from the ICT Profile for College Students. Four CEGEPs participated in the pilot project. The project and results were presented last June at the Commission des affaires pédagogiques (CAP) of the Fédération des cégeps and at the AQPC colloquium.
Phase 2 of the project is planned for 2018-2019. It aims to broaden the clientele at participating colleges, to Student Activities, Cont. Ed., recognition of acquired skills, and corporate training. The BadgeCollégial.ca initiative is mentioned in the MÉES’ Plan d’action numérique en éducation et en enseignement supérieur, published on May 30, 2018, as an inspirational project.
