College Badge.ca : pilot project and future projects

This year, the IT REP Network experimented with the awarding of digital badges to recognize and make known the mastery of digital skills by college students. Five colleges participated in the pilot project.

The slideshow first presents the pilot project that took place from January 2017 to June 2018: objectives, implementation steps, results, implementation challenges. Then, it gives an overview of future projects related to the granting of digital badges in the college network and the conditions associated with their success.

Quebec Education System: Welcome (finally) to the 21st century is the title of the conference that will be delivered by Marc-André Girard at the IT REP meeting on April 25th, 26th and 27th. Very involved in the pedagogical integration of technologies, Mr. Girard holds a management position at Collège Beaubois. His lecture will be an opportunity to discuss the reasons for the paradigm shift, both in terms of teaching and learning.

Les projets de badge numérique dans le réseau collégial : aspects pédagogiques et technologiques

Le badge numérique permet de reconnaître la maîtrise de compétences formelles et non-formelles dans une perspective de formation tout au long de la vie. Cette forme de reconnaissance suscite de plus en plus d’intérêt dans le monde de l’éducation, mais aussi sur le marché du travail.

Deux projets de badge numérique ont actuellement cours dans le réseau collégial.  Le 14 mars dernier, André Beauregard (Cégep régional Lanaudière – formation continue) et Nicole Perreault (Réseau REPTIC) ont chacun présenté leur projet dans le cadre d’un atelier organisé par le REFAD.

2017-2018 Portrait of the ITREP Network Members

Each year, the ITREP Network draws up a portrait of its members (position in the college, percentage of tasks dedicated to ICT issues and their evolution, benefits of being a member of the network, suggestions, etc.). The response rate for the questionnaire, of the ITREPs from CEGEPs and public colleges for 2017-2918 is 96%, and 92% for the whole network. It is of 80 % for anglophones colleges (public and private) and of 94 % for francophone colleges.

We notice this year that there is a slight increase in the percentage of tasks dedicated to ICT issues in public and private colleges. However, the needs are still huge if we take into consideration the increasing use of digital technology in education and the future Digital Action Plan for Education and Higher Education of the MEES.

Digital Integration to Improve Student Success and Perseverance: Bases for Building an Argument

Which argument to use in order to link the integration of IT and the improvement of student success (role, impact) when developing a Strategic Plan for student success or when revising the Social Science program? This question was part of a simulation exercise done at the ITREP meeting of November 2017. All collected data can be found in this document (in French) which proposes a series of favorable elements to take into consideration for the integration of IT to improve student success and perseverance.
