Free and/or open-source software in colleges
There are many types of software and applications in the education world that are free, public domain or non-proprietary. In Quebec, the use of free software will most likely be encouraged by a recent framework policy by the Conseil du trésor du Québec: among other initiatives, the policy urges the education network to use free software. With this in mind, the REPTIC network has created a work group whose objectives are as follows:
- To collect free and/or open-source software whose nomenclature corresponds to skills in the ICT Profile for College Students. For example:
- Free and/or open source software corresponding to skill 3.3 Make a computer-assisted presentation
- Free and/or open-source software corresponding to skill 2.2 Process qualitative data -> 2.2.1 Create concept maps or concept networks
The results of this work will be accessible in June 2012 in the Ressources LL section. In the meantime, the section proposes several resources associated with free and/or open-source software in an educational context.
